The Verde Bag was created by Gina Sample of Sample Design as a stylish alternative to the plastic grocery bag. After years of using her own reusable bags, Gina couldn’t find a cloth bag that was big enough and stylish at the same time. All the bags were plain or silk-screened advertisements for one store or another. With the help of her mother, a professional seamstress, Gina designed her own bags using beautiful upholstery fabric.

Each year Americans consume 380 billion plastic bags and wraps; comparatively, world-wide an estimated 1 trillion bags are used annually. Plastic bags don’t biodegrade, they photodegrade—breaking down into smaller and smaller toxic bits contaminating soil and waterways and entering the food web when animals accidentally ingest.

It may sound like a small step, but switching to reusable products can prevent hundreds, if not thousands of plastic bags and wraps from entering our landfills and littering our environment each year.
